Pediatric NurseA pediatric nurse will deal with kids and their parents. This can be a trying job but it is very rewarding, as there is nothing better than making children feel good. A nurse working in this department may not make as much money as a nurse practitioner or a surgery or intensive care nurse. However, they will make more money than general practitioner nurses. A nurse attends no special training in order to work with children. However, one must attain their associate’s degree in nursing, sit the computerized NCLEX exam so that they can get their nursing license and become RN.

Being a pediatric nurse is different from being a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP). For the latter, one has to attain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and then study for a further two years for advanced training. One will also have to sit another exam so that they can qualify as PNP. For people looking for a very rewarding career working with kids and teenagers, this is the best one for them. In addition to handling the same duties as the RN, they can also prescribe medicine to children even in the absence of the medical doctor. They will also test, counsel and advice their patients and guardians, and help them interpret results.

The course program at school will consist of microbiology, behavioral sciences, nutrition and many more. The training program will consist of class work and on the job training in hospitals and institutions. Later, one can choose to go into different fields of practice after they get their nursing license. Pediatric nurses and PNPs can work in a variety of settings. They can work in hospitals and in homes, giving care to handicapped children. They will also work in schools, private practice and many other places. The remuneration for pediatric nurse is good, but that of the PNP is better.
